Well-known NFT project Pudgy Penguins is venturing into Web3 gaming with the upcoming launch of its virtual world dubbed 'Pudgy World.' Powered by the Ethereum layer-2 rollup zkSync Era, Pudgy World will be an immersive digital environment that aims to offer narrative-driven and open-ended gameplay options for Pudgy Penguins NFT holders, toy owners, and newcomers.
The early-access version of the virtual playground is scheduled to launch sometime before April 2024, according to a statement.
One of the hallmarks of the Pudgy World is the ability to integrate NFT and physical collectibles into its gameplay. Upon full launch, players who hold Pudgy Penguin NFTs or plush toys will be able to bring their collectibles into the game as 3D characters.
Additionally, the game will be free-to-play, allowing anyone to jump in and create their own customizable character to "embark on a story-driven journey."
While it is open to all gamers, Pudgy Penguin NFT and toy owners will enjoy special perks in Pudgy World. Moreover, NFT holders will receive royalties through in-game item purchases from others.
Furthermore, players will be guided through their adventures by Pudgy and Peaches, two hero characters from the Pudgy Penguins universe. Further details of the gameplay will be revealed later.
Commenting on the development, Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz said Pudgy World offers a new way for fans to interact with their characters.
