Fox's Blockchain-Backed Animated Series 'Krapopolis' Has Revealed a Premiere Date

'Krapopolis,' the offspring of Fox Entertainment and the long-awaited blockchain-backed animated series created by Dan Harmon, co-creator of Rick and Morty, has finally gotten a premiere date. According to a recent tweet from the project's official Twitter account, the series will premiere this autumn, namely on September 24th, 2023.

Announced in 2021, Krapopolis is the first project from Blockchain Creative Labs (BCL), the Web3 media and creative technology arm of Fox Entertainment. Shortly after the series' creation, BCL secured a staggering $100 million investment from its parent company, showing Fox's bullishness and optimism toward the project and blockchain technology.

The events are taking place in mythical ancient Greece where a flawed family of humans, gods, and monsters tries to run one of the world's first cities without killing each other. Fox gave the series an early renewal for a second and third season even before any episode of the show aired. This is quite a bold and unexpected move in Hollywood for a series based on the original IP.

After years of anticipation and rumors, the date of Krapopolis’ going on the air, as well as information about the integration of blockchain technology into the television series is finally known. Last August, fans of the show were given the chance to purchase Krap Chickens, a series of 10,420 NFTs that promised to offer some level of show-related access to holders.

It has become clear that with these chickens, fans can watch exclusive behind-the-scenes animated content from the show's production process, join art contests, attend unique IRL experiences with the cast and crew, and vote on the show's elements. Moreover, holders can use eggs from their Krap Chickens to purchase official merch and digital goods.

The Krapopolis project has been in the works since 2020. At the time, it was revealed that Dan Harmon entered a deal with Fox to create a new adult animated comedy with a straight-to-series order. In 2021, it was announced that the show would be curated on the blockchain as Fox forayed into the NFT realm.

Meanwhile, by curating Krapopolis on the blockchain, Fox will not only be able to build communities and monetize its content offerings but transform fans from mere show viewers into active participants, thereby delivering unparalleled experiences. It won’t be long now to find out whether this innovative approach pays off and how it will influence content creation in the future.
