FC Barcelona Is Actively Paving Its Path into the Metaverse

One of the world's most award-winning football clubs, FC Barcelona, is preparing to take over the baton and join the metaverse and NFTs. According to FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta's public statement, such an initiative will help "create opportunities for growth and drive sustainability."

Besides, the club’s representative announced that joining the crypto realm aims to increase fan engagement and create an “interesting emotional experience.” The metaverse land owned by FC Barcelona may be called “Barca Metaverse,” where the rooters will be able to benefit from meeting their favorite athletes, trade NFTs, and even probably buy and sell digital assets using the club's own cryptocurrency in the future.

Barca had previously made use of the latest technology, becoming the pioneer football club to launch a fan token through the social token platform Chiliz. But these initiatives are just a drop in the sea of the club's metaverse- and NFT-related plans.

We are innovative in the use and adaptation of technologies and we will continue to be so,” Laporta said. “In recent times there has been a lot of attention to blockchain products and services such as NFTs and metaverse … We should be able to offer digital products to our members and fans that will align with the value of the club and generate a very interesting emotional experience.”

The President of the club hasn’t specified the dates when the Web 3.0 adoptions such as the first NFT collection or metaverse space would be rolled out.
