Yuga Labs, the parent company of the popular BAYC NFT project, has recently announced that it has acquired a music and metaverse startup Roar Studios. This step is taken to contribute to the development of Yuga Labs’ dedicated metaverse, the Otherside, with the aid of Roar’s specialized expertise.
Roar Studios is a company that bridges the worlds of gaming, social media, music, and the metaverse using advanced tech tools including AI. Roar Studios is also the developer of the ROAR platform for musicians to create and play music together in an immersive space. It’s also an environment for connection, collaboration, and competition for artists and fans.
Yuga Labs will harness Roar Studios’ innovative technology, expertise, and leadership skills to develop and scale the Otherside metaverse. The Web3 company will also see Roar Studios’ community members onboard the ape-focused metaverse. The latest acquisition will see Roar Studios’ CEO and founder Eric Reid take up the role of General Manager at the Otherside, and report to Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Mike Seavers.

Since its creation in early 2022, Yuga Labs’ Otherside metaverse has seen a massive inflow of innovative ideas and experiences that have helped to onboard more users into the ape-themed gamified metaverse. Among them is the launch of the collection-focused 2D strategy game, Legends of the Mara, back in March. The game was a follow-up of Otherside's second trip.
With the latest acquisition, it is expected that the Otherside metaverse will be opened to a large community of music and gaming audiences. Stay tuned for more updates on the deal.
