Our journey begins in OSAKA – Japan, where Hitoshi Kihara, our dear friend, and travel guide is taking us to the Ōsaka-eki, the Osaka Station.

Here we need to choose between two routes.

First is the northern road, which takes us from KUMUL, Vassal of the Qing dynasty, over KASHGAR, the best-preserved example of a traditional Islamic city to be found anywhere in Central Asia, to TASHKENT and SAMARKAND, which were not only among the oldest continuously inhabited cities but also one of the largest in Central Asia and finally BUKHARA, Noble Bukhara, where trade, scholarship, culture, and religion came together.

Then there is the second route, the south road. Beginning from OSAKA to JAKAR, the white bird of Bhutan over KATHMANDU, mountain foot and gateway to the Nepalese Himalayas, to VARANASI, the holiest of the seven sacred cities in Hinduism and from there to PESHAWAR, the capital of the Kushan Empire under the rule of Kanishka and finally to KANDAHAR, the ‘Alexandria of Arachosia’ given its name by Alexander the Great, who had laid out the foundation what is now known as the ‘Old Kandahar’.

From there both routes merge in REY, or as we are calling it today, TEHRAN.

But before we go further down the road let us make a decision. Which route will we go?

No matter which one you choose first we need to get our ticket to OSAKA. Hitoshi Kihara will help us get it and there I see the conductor of the SILK ROAD EXPRESS, Oskar von Hutier.

So, if you are ready grab your toothbrush, a pair of socks, pack your suitcase, and…

Let’s go…
