Venus is the second planet in the Solar System in terms of distance from the Sun and the first in terms of temperature.
Although it is in second place in terms of distance from the sun, the reason why it is the hottest planet is that its atmosphere does not allow the incoming sun's rays to escape. It is also known as Zühre, Çolpan, or Shepherd's Star. This planet got its name from the Ancient Roman goddess Venus (Aphrodite in Ancient Greek Mythology). The astronomical symbol of Venus is the same as the symbol of femininity. It rotates on its axis in the opposite direction of all the other planets in the Solar System. It completes its orbit around the Sun in 224.7 Earth days.
Since it is similar to the Earth in terms of its size, it is also known as the Earth's sister planet or Earth's twin. Because it is located close to the Sun in the sky and its orbit is closer to the Sun than that of the Earth, it can only be seen from Earth before sunrise or after sunset. That's why Venus is also called the Evening Star, Morning Star, or Dawn Star. It is also called the Shepherd's Star. When it can be seen, it draws attention as the brightest object in the sky.
