The World's First Blockchain and NFT-Backed Car by Alfa Romeo

While Samsung is producing an NFT-friendly line of TVs, Alfa Romeo goes even further, announcing a plug-in electric hybrid fitted with NFT and blockchain technology. The new crypto-backed car by Alfa Romeo is still under construction and will be available for orders in Q4, 2023.

The Italian automobile brand announced its future model with the NFT and crypto support alongside the brand's total electrification by 2027. Thus, Alfa Romeo sees a variety of prospects to use NFT and blockchain in the production of new cars, and Tonale SUV, in particular. The first blockchain-friendly car will give its owner an opportunity to certify the vehicle by means of an NFT upon purchase. The blockchain will provide reliable data storage to keep the car’s entire life cycle, including the run, pit-stops, and overall service check data safely under one “roof.”

The head of Marketing at Alfa Romeo, Francesco Calcara, explained the decision as “Digitalization is a key enabler of our metamorphosis. Tonale is the first car ever to keep a blockchain, non-fungible token. NFTs use the same distributed information logic that protects your Bitcoin. It records all data on the blockchain.

In fact, The Tonale SUV is the beginning of the end for the 110-year-old company's traditional internal combustion engine lines, celebrating the new era with The Tonale. While Alfa Romeo was the first car manufacturer who announced NFT technology inbuilt in their automobiles, it's worth just waiting for a while to hear from other car brands to take up the initiative.

As for the Tonale itself, the car boasts outstanding properties. Thus, the prototype has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 256 horsepower and 295 foot-pounds of torque. The hybrid-electric version will be supplied with a 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 272 horsepower and an electric range of over 30 miles per charge.
