Boyajian has been a professional photographer since the late 1970s, with opportunities to shoot everything from fires, floods, and ruined amusement piers to emotional Miss Americas and elbow-rubbing celebrities, and his photos have appeared in newspapers worldwide.
Two of Boyajian’s greatest assets are his eye and his luck.
For instance, this Drop features a candid, unscheduled photo of David Bowie. Boyajian happened to be sharing a train with the rock and roll icon on the way to Montreal, where Bowie was en route for the opening show of The Year of the Diamond Dogs' tour following a week of rehearsals in Port Chester. He politely asked Bowie for permission to take the picture, and the Thin White Duke agreed.
So goes the history of a perpetually well-situated photographer.
'"Liza Minnelli was a doll, absolutely wonderful. Don Rickles is the sweetest guy. Donald Trump said to me, 'You're in my face so much, how come you don't work for me?' Sugar Ray Leonard and Evander Holyfield are true gentlemen. Holyfield invited me down to his house in Atlanta to photograph him working out there.'" Boyajian told the New York Times for a profile in 1996.
