With the arrival of 2022, the whole world has evidenced the charitable power of NFTs. The web3 initiatives have been and keep providing aid to Ukraine struck by war, NGOs engaged in combating terminal diseases, climate changes, and other urgent topics of the present.
One of the latest NFT collaborations for the sake of charity has been introduced by the prominent American singer and songwriter Salem Ilese and Pussy Riot’s co-founder Nadya Tolokonnikova. The two social activists are joining efforts to support young women's freedoms within the Center for Reproductive Rights. This NGO has been years helping women to stand for their abortion rights so that they are “protected in law as fundamental human rights” on the governmental levels.
“The fight for abortion rights is something I hold very close to my heart. I’ve been trying to figure out how I can best help the cause, which has been particularly hard, as it’s easy to feel helpless when picking a fight with the Supreme Court,” Ilese said. Tolokonnikova, who has recently helped to raise 7 million for Ukraine, couldn't stand aside from the urgent matter: “No one can be merely a bystander. If you remain silent during times when reproductive rights are in danger, you’re supporting evil.”
Now to the NFTs. The idea behind the drop is taken from Ilese's latest Tik Tok song titled Crypto Boy. The track is abundant in self-deprecating satire, depicting a collective hilarious image of NFT traders.
After the song was released to the masses, Ilese's DMs started bursting with messages from the crypto boys she was singing about. To "ease the tension," the singer teamed up with Nadya Tolokonnikova to create the 1,973 music NFTs, featuring the full version of Crypto Boy, paired with exclusive art pieces by Tolokonnikova. The price per NFT is 0.1 ETH.
The number of tokens is a so-called "nod to the year of the U.S. Supreme Court’s abortion-affirming Roe v. Wade decision," which is leaked to be on the verge of being declined.
The Crypto Boy NFTs are going to drop via the Sound.xyz web3 music platform on May 24th. All 100% proceeds from the NFT sale will go to fund the initiatives by the Center for Reproductive Rights. Mark your calendars!
