Romania has recently shown its Web3 ambitions and expressed its interest in non-fungible technologies adoption in the country. This statement hasn’t been just empty words as the result of it is going to be tangible in the near future.
Romania’s National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI Bucharest) is set to launch an in-house NFT marketplace dubbed ICI D|Services. Scheduled to go live on April 26th, the Romanian brand-new NFT platform will allow public and institutional users to mint, manage, and trade NFTs. The initiative is supported by the Romanian Secretariat-General and the Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digitalization and is aimed at connecting the public and private sector institutions and users.
Commenting on the impact of the incoming product in the country, ICI Bucharest blockchain laboratory coordinator, Paul Niculescu-Mizil Gheorghe, stated:
“Our institute wants to create a bridge between the young generations and the public institutions’ values, initiating a comfort zone for the interactions with the digital space.”
ICI D|Services was created in collaboration with MultiversX which ICI Bucharest partnered with in mid-2022. The result of the partnership is the development of a decentralized Domain Name System (DNS) and Top-Level Domain (TLD) ecosystem.
ICI Bucharest has unveiled that its NFT marketplace launch will kick off with five unique NFT collections created in collaboration with prominent athletes, organizations, and institutions in Romania.
Such a move by Romania shows the country’s desire to embrace and adopt the latest technologies to enhance its interactions with citizens, institutions, and businesses. The new NFT marketplace is believed to have a positive impact on the Romanian economy and overall development of the country.
