Have you ever been to a concert held in the metaverse? Based on the scale of the latest events, you definitely should try. Seeking where to go you can stop your search here, as MTV has just come up with its new category for the Video Music Awards (VMAs), titled “Best Metaverse Performance.” And it's no surprise, judging from how many musicians chose in favor of metaverse channels for their big-scale performances.
The first-ever MTV's Best Metaverse Performance nominees include Ariana Grande, BLACKPINK, BTS, Charli XCX, Justin Bieber, and Twenty One Pilots. Each of them has been recently setting the metaverse lands on fire with inflammatory concerts. Thus, Ariana Grande held a space-themed concert in Fortnite, while BLACKPINK's top-tier 3D avatars brought some savageness to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUGB) on Android and iOS. As for BTS, they sang their top-chart Butter on the Minecraft stage. Wearing Boxy avatars, the band performed their recognizable dance moves.
Meanwhile, Charli XCX and Twenty One Pilots had made waves in Roblox, performing big-scale concerts. Finally, Justin Bieber has opted for the metaverse entertainment platform Wave to treat his web3 fans to a superb VR concert.
For now, MTV doesn't reveal whether the Best Metaverse Performance Awards will be held in VR, IRL, or both. However, with the creation of such a nomination, MTV seems to consider the metaverse a mainstream direction for the music industry evolution in the long run.
