Lawrence Lee is famous for his iconic shamanistic images as well as his children’s book: “The Mirror,” which is the first ever children’s book to be created entirely on a computer in color.
About forty years ago, Lawrence Lee created a series of works depicting abstracted young women with heart-shaped faces and squash-blossom hairdos.
Tia Mariposa I ("Tia" means "aunt", "mariposa" means "butterfly") is a revisited imagery of the series. The artist stripped out parts of the original image and replaced them: some with graded fills and some with subtle animation.
