The global automotive brands are one by one joining the metaverse. Now, the time has come for Kia America to explore new terrains with the first-ever NFT collection.

Kia's Robo Dog, which is a central character of the brand's 2022 Super Bowl advertising campaign, is being turned into NFTs. For this, the carmaker has partnered with NFT platform Sweet and The Petfinder Foundation. The main collection of 10,000 Robo Dog NFTs, will be available on February 18th, on a first-come, first-served basis. It's worth noting that the collectibles are dropping in 3 stages, where the first two have already launched.

Here's the schedule:

February 11th: 10K Robo Dog Adoption Pass tokens dropped on sweet.io for free. The pass holders get access to 1 of 10,000 generative Robo Dog NFTs on February 18th.

February 13th: Six outstanding 1:1 Robo Dog NFTs are auctioned off on the Sweet NFT platform with a starting bid of $299. The auction will run until February 18th.

February 18th: After 12 pm EST, the bidding will stop, and the 10,000 doggies will become available for purchase. Here, the Pass Holders can benefit from early access at 3 pm EST and an exclusive symbolic price, just $20.22 per NFT. Accordingly, the public sale will begin at 7 pm EST, allowing anyone to become a Robo Dog NFT owner.

The Robo Dog NFTs are preprogrammed tokens with traits such as breed, age, size, gender, coat length, and color. Most doggies in the collection are pups and young animals, unlike in reality, where older animals are less desired. The idea behind the collection's programming, where older and big dog NFTs are rarer than others, may call on people to pay attention to adult pets' adoption.

The main initiative behind the drop is finally finding forever homes for hundreds of fluffy friends through Petfinder.com. 90% of all the proceeds from the primary sales will go to the foundation. The remaining 10 percent of profit is written into the smart contract on the blockchain. That means that Petfinder will also benefit from each Robo Dog NFT sale on the secondary market.

"Many of us are aware of the increase in pet adoptions as a result of the pandemic," Russell Wager, vice president of marketing at Kia America, announced, adding: "Although tens of thousands of animals have found their forever homes, pet surrenders to shelters are increasing as people return to work and there are many pets whose stories deserve to end as happily as Robo Dog's did in our Super Bowl spot."

It's worth noting that Kia America has been contributing to animal welfare in the country for a long time. Being the “Official Automotive Partner” of the NBA, NBA All-Star, NBA Cares, and the title partner of the Kia NBA All-Star MVP award, Kia hopes to draw as much as possible attention to homeless animals' problems, helping our four-legged buddies find new loving hosts.
