Iconic artworks by one of the most influential American artists, a pioneer of his generation, and a social activist, Keith Haring, will be transformed into Ethereum NFTs. A collection of five rare digital drawings, created by Keith on his Commodore Amiga computer in 1987, will be featured in an online auction hosted by Christie's.
Keith Haring’s artworks are instantly recognizable by symbols or characters in vibrant colors, including his signature barking dogs and dancing figures. The artist is also renowned for breaking the boundaries and combining the incompatible, having brought popular and street art culture into art galleries. In addition, Keith Haring was an early adopter of the digital revolution, having even depicted the Apple Macintosh computer in some of his works.
All of this underscores the tokenization of some of Keith’s artworks as a natural extension of his profound artistic legacy. According to Christie’s estimates, five artworks within the series are expected to fetch prices ranging from $220,000 to $500,000 per piece.
The Keith Haring Foundation has made a delicate work to preserve the natively digital artworks, originally created on a vintage computer system. The team behind the project has minted the Amiga artworks, distinctive with signature bold lines and pop color aesthetics, on the Ethereum blockchain, making it possible for the first time in history to collect, exhibit, and print them.
The online auction will run from September 12th until September 20th while the artworks will also be exhibited at The Gateway: Korea in Seoul from September 6th to September 8th, followed by an exhibition at Christie’s New York from September 14th to September 19th.
