About the airdrop
Altered Art Reality: on November 9th 2021, we will make available for free a limited edition of 625 unique NFTs - ownable original digital art pieces - created especially for us by world-renowned artist, musician, and DJ, Jim Avignon.
“Altered Art Reality” is a work by legendary Berlin-based artist and DJ Jim Avignon. The motive and the format of the NFT itself explore ideas around different states of consciousness and ever-widening fields of perception, with direct reference to the Metaverse as an altered reality.
It is inspired by Bicycle Day; an annual tribute observed in psychedelic communities, celebrating the discovery of LSD. The tribute refers to Albert Hoffmann’s dramatic bike ride home after he accidentally ingested 250 micrograms of the substance at the Sandoz Laboratories in 1943. Although Hoffmann was initially freaked out by his trip, he began “to enjoy the unprecedented colors and plays of shapes that persisted behind my closed eyes.” Jim Avignon’s optimistic work, showing the tripping Hoffmann cycling through the countryside outside Basel, picks up on the “kaleidoscopic, fantastic images” that Hoffman perceived. The fluid composition, with its constantly unwinding road, is a clever gesture, encapsulating the “hybridizing” images that Hoffmann saw as being “in constant flux”.
There is Play Power in the artwork’s form. The NFT picks up on the wider esthetic of the acid trip, with a knowing wink to the classic acid blotter paper format.
Born in 1968, Jim Avignon is one of the most extraordinary figures working in the German art scene today. He is a painter, a musician, a DJ, a performer, and a curator. Avignon paints a lot, and fast. His pictures are a mash-up of cartoon-like figurations embedded in an expressionistic pictorial structure where titles, painted on the canvas, control the composition. Avignon’s style utilizes a minimum of lines to trigger maximum expression. His works can be found in collections and museums worldwide, as well as lining the walls of clubs, venues, and out on the city streets. Using the accelerationism of society as a theme, his ironic and humorous works are frequently seen to be disrupting the paradigms of social inequality.
