War + Peace explores the fragile relationship between beauty and tranquility and the violence and destruction that can overwhelm it. Built from repetitive cellular shapes that combine to form both ends of the spectrum, the art harnesses abstract expression to engage reality. It is comprised of 50 original works all created by hand using a repetitive abstract cellular technique. Simple geometric forms, each cell is at once a symbol of beauty, life, nature and balance, yet at the same time imbued with the potential of great violence challenging the peace and highlighting the horror the artist aim to capture. The cells combine to communicate a range of energies that drive the narrative between war + peace. Coercion, memory, sabotage and ritual, compete with rhythm, play, nature and freedom for pre-eminence and victory only to slip away. The artist behind War + Peace is Rose Cameron.
War + Peace is intentionally an NFT collection, yet no machine or algorithm touched the work. The artist engages with the aesthetic of today's generative culture connecting the seeming randomness of computer generated creativity to her subject. While the structure of the work feels random, they are the expression of the human hand, perhaps the real determining factor regarding which pole of War + Peace prevails.
War + Peace was created with the goal to raise funds for the children of Ukraine whose lives and well-being are now under greater threat due to the Russian invasion. Proceeds from the sale will be donated in its entirety to charitable organizations continuing their work at Ukraine. They include Save The Children, UNICEF, Red Cross and others.
There are 7.5 million children in Ukraine. More than 400,000 live in high risk areas impacted directly by the presence of soldiers, artillery and fighting. The war is forcing them to leave their homes, move to basements and bomb shelters. Living in brutal conditions, they are in need of immediate help in form of shelter, food, safe water, medicine and cash. (Source: Save The Children)
War + Peace is the continuation of the artist's journey and her efforts to express her love for the arts and all forms of creative expression, as well as the importance she places on the safety and well-being of children. One of Rose's past project was Taking Back The Streets, where she worked with the former First Lady Michelle Obama and joined forces with over 15 world renowned street artists including Kenny Scharf, Shepard Fairey, Eric, Keith Haring Foundation. The initiative was dedicated to promoting children's health and the fight against childhood obesity.
This project is the first installment under the Umaga NFT Art series and plans for events, additional works and collections is in place to build awareness, support, and continue fundraising to benefit children in Ukraine and other parts of the world.
