With this collection, VLH aims to demonstrate man's disconnection from Christianity within the Western world. The angels, which throughout the Bible symbolise devotion to God, are falling due to the lack of prayer and devotion. The symbolism is shown through 2 things.
On the one hand, the wings of the angels are portrayed on their front instead of being attached to their backs. By this, VLH refers to the angels' disconnection from their faith in God and humanity. On the other hand, the angels are portrayed through the back. Symbolising the growing distance between the viewer (humanity) and faith, as it were, the loss of the message the angels bring.
Within the Bible, only 3 angels are named. Each time this is about a male angel. Despite the fact that the scriptures point out that the legion of angels consists of thousands. This is where VLH responds by depicting only female angels. With the added symbolism that the Christian faith has lost a lot of value due to the changing position of women in society, something the church is not evolving with.
The full collection is a process started in 2019 and finalised in September 2022.
All fallen angels will be given their own names and the collection will remain fixed at the number of 99.
