Starlight was born from Nygilia's immersion in the Chihuahuan Desert during her Art Blocks x OpenSea residency in Marfa, Texas. She encountered the Marfa Lights, an unexplained atmospheric phenomenon that has captivated scientists and mystics alike for over a century, and began studying their relationship to the land's spiritual energy and Indigenous lore. Central to her research was the Apache legend of the Fallen Star: a story of light, descent, and transformation that she found in profound resonance with the lights themselves. Her research extended into James Bunnell's field study 'Hunting Marfa Lights', a scientific investigation of the phenomenon across Mitchell Flat. Bunnell documents a discovery about a lightning bug native to the region that emits blue light. It is an electric, otherworldly blue. That image, a small living creature producing cold light in the desert, became the animating metaphor for the movement logic within Starlight's code.
