After the mega-successful launch by Tiffany & Co, the most breakthrough auction house Sotheby's in partnership with the innovative NFT jewelry platform Matagolden is coming up with a new outstanding auction titled Art as Jewelry as Art.
The auction will feature NFTs paired with invaluable physical jewelry and accessory pieces by some of the most forward-thinking artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. The famed creators featured are Salvador Dalí, Louise Nevelson, Alexander Calder, Claude Lalanne, George Braque, Lucio Fontana, Pol Bury, Kiki Smith, Harry Bertoia, Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, and Jesús Rafael Soto.
In addition to the online auction, which will be running from September 24th through October 4th, the physical lots will be viewed during the same period at Sotheby’s New York grounds.
“This selection of artists’ jewelry aims to reintroduce these works to the discerning collector in a new context, and as a defined category of art for a collection that is not only intended for adornment but also as a means of personal expression,” Tiffany Dubin, artist jewelry specialist, who is heading this sale commented on the auction.
As for the items auctioned, the works of the past century include:
Among contemporary jewelry artworks to participate in the auction, there will be items by Andrew Grima, Alan Gard, Charles de Temple, and Jean Vendome, including Vendome’s set of Echo-style diamond, rutilated quartz, and 18k gold necklace and earrings at a price ranging from $35,000 to $45,000.
According to Metagolden, the winning NFT bidders will benefit from wearing their non-fungible luxury pieces in the metaverse and also see their value increase with time.
