In my opinion, if you want to understand the customs of a society, you have to look at the mythology of that society. Hear the Beat is a collection that I created with elements that feed Turkish mythology. Here we see how the effort to make sense of the world and the universe shapes mythology. Therefore, cultural interactions with nearby geographies also constitute the content of the works. As an example, the figures of the Turkish calendar with 12 animals, which are also encountered in Chinese mythology, can be given. The concept that inspired me in the creation of this collection is the drums that Turkish shamans use during rituals. These drums, called def, were usually made of the skin of the animal that helped the shaman, and pictures of the owner, spirits and nature concepts were painted on them. In short, “hear the beat” emerged as a result of my effort to describe the rhythm with colors and motifs.
