The year 3020 brought about many great technological advancements that made the standard of human comfort and life abound tremendously. Starships being launched to scope distant planets and solar systems, the ability to harness the sun's power, and foot massage robot that analyzes the shape of your foot for maximum massage efficiency. The world in its entirety was in a state of ignorant bliss that would ultimately lead to the downfall of humanity. Underneath all the glory that mankind had sowed and reaped over the last thousands of years, festered a growing hate amongst a small minority. They believed that the ends don't justify the means. This group clung on to the history of their ancestors and bore a 1000 year grudge against the world. One bright and sunny afternoon a bright blue light pulsed in the clear sky of what was once the city of Cairo, Egypt. This light enveloped the city and brought instant annihilation to a 100 km radius. This light was seen appearing in majorly populated areas across the globe wiping out the majority of the human population in a mere 20 seconds. The humans that did survive were soon to experience physiological and biological changes to their body. These humans staggered through the wasteland that was once their shiney utopia and desperately searched for other survivors. 27 billion souls reduced to around 20,000. The humans did their best to find each other and survive. 20 years pass since the First Light and humanity is barely holding on.
