Inspired by the pioneering works of Hooke, Fry, Haeckel & Serafini, Cytographia features a collection of 418 interactive, hand-drawn microorganisms serving as a tribute to unknown and extinct species.
This artwork takes you on a trip into a world of speculative cell structures whose appearance and movement arise emergently and are brought to life through user interactions in real time. The dynamic nature of Cytographia depends on the collector's input, either through mouse movement, clicks, or other specific interactions.
This neo-incunabulum of xenocytology builds upon diverse strands from Levin's 30-year oeuvre in the interactive software art. Every aspect of Cytographia, from anatomy to labels, is generated using p5.js (an open-source programming toolkit for the arts) and runs best on Chrome on OSX.
Cytographia will go live on January 10 at 1 pm EST. 416 of the 418 pieces will be offered through an auction format on Art Blocks.
The auction starts with a high price of 4.0 ETH and gradually decreases till it reaches a final resting price of 0.15 ETH.
