The Council of Fashion Designers of America is turning 60. To celebrate the big birthday, CFDA is breaking into the metaverse with its first NFT collection exhibited at The Sandbox. Dubbed Lighting the Path of American Fashion, the series will comprise seven one-of-one NFTs, featuring the iconic moments of the fashion realm.
The NFT collection will come as a part of a retrospective exhibition, dubbed Fashioning the Shades of American Design, in The Sandbox and will be composed of 60 American fashion looks throughout 60 years of CFDA's existence. The event will be curated by fashion historian and Assistant Curator of Fashion of the Cleveland Museum of Art, Darnell-Jamal Lisby.
Only seven of sixty looks will be voxelized to become super-exclusive NFT wearables. According to the CFDA officials, the collection will feature characterful designs by Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Vivienne Tam, Carolina Herrera, Coach, Diane von Furstenberg, and Willy Chavarria. One of the most recognizable centerpieces in the collection is a grunge outfit from Marc Jacobs’ spring 1993 collection. Another iconic piece features Dapper Dan’s 1980s designs for Eric B & Rakim.
The one-of-one non-fungible wearables will be put up for auction via CFDA's official website starting from December 12th and running till December 16th. The bids will start at $15K for Willy Chavarria and Vivienne Tam NFTs and a whopping $25K for the other five wearables.
