Lionel Richie is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and television personality born in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was part of the Commodores Band before launching his successful solo career in the ’80s. Before fame, Richie was a talented tennis player who got a scholarship to study at the Tuskegee Institute. Alongside his studies, he practised with the Commodores Band and later became a bonified member. He wrote several tracks for the band and recorded some individual tracks, which featured in his debut album “Lionel Richie” in 1982. “Truly,” one of the tracks in the album, topped charts in the US and elevated Lionel’s name to unprecedented heights.
Over the years, he has worked on many projects, including world-famous documentaries and TV shows. He has scooped numerous awards, including a Lifetime Achievement BET Award, 4 Grammy Awards, and more.
