Iconic Anime Attack on Titan Launches on The Sandbox

Attack on Titan, a famous Japanese anime series, has partnered with The Sandbox to leap significantly into the metaverse. This collaboration will see the launch of an NFT collection featuring characters from the iconic manga series, a move expected to stir up the anime and NFT communities with anticipation before the end of the year.

Japanese manga artist Hajime Isayama wrote and crafted the Attack on Titan series between September 2009 and April 2021. The anime’s plot revolves around Eren Yeager, the manga’s protagonist who lost his mother to human-eating humanoids (titans) that killed his mother, destroyed his hometown and threatened human existence. The manga series was adapted into a TV show between April 2013 and November 2023.

The latest leap into The Sandbox will represent the manga series’ first appearance in the NFT realm. Attack on Titan will join an upcoming LAND sale on the metaverse’s map. This will pave the way for players to interact with one another and the beloved manga characters in a virtual land parcel surrounding the iconic anime series.

Through the upcoming NFT collectibles, users can explore new adventures, defend humanity, and fight the battle for survival anew on the metaverse. Notably, this move will likely help to onboard more anime lovers and non-Web3 natives into the growing Web3 ecosystem.

Highlighting how the latest collaboration marks a new chapter for the Attack on Titan franchise, The Sandbox’s co-founder and COO, Sebastien Borget, said:

“Attack on Titan is much more than a Japanese manga series set in a post-apocalyptic dark fantasy world. It has taken the world by storm, turning into a global anime and movie phenomenon. We’re thrilled to bring Attack of the Titan’s authentic universe to the metaverse and see the story continue with a new journey in The Sandbox. Attack on Titan’s fans will enjoy playing and creating new adventures in their favorite series.”

Different Japanese anime series have recently expanded their tentacles into the blockchain ecosystem. Two weeks ago, the developer team behind Avalanche blockchain teamed up with the creators of the famous anime and webtoon Solo Leveling.

Attack on Titan’s latest shift towards non-fungibility represents its creators’ readiness to embrace new technologies and innovative ways to expand the anime’s IP. This move may open the doors for more collabs and forays.
