Hong Kong-based gaming software firm Animoca Brands has joined forces with its metaverse-focused subsidiary, The Sandbox, and the metaverse architect Smobler to bring the quest for eternal peace into the metaverse. The trio achieves this by launching a virtual gamified experience on the metaverse dubbed the Universal Peace Sanctuary.
The Universal Peace Sanctuary, built on The Sandbox, is a unique virtual representation of a physical center of the same name. This physical structure, owned by Dzogchen master and teacher His Eminence Shyalpa Rinpoche, is currently under construction in Lumbini, Nepal. The digital experience, like its physical counterpart, is a testament to peace, unity, and cultural understanding, offering unique features that can contribute to a better world.
The peace-themed metaverse experience is open to users of all ages “from all walks of life and all spiritual traditions.” By delving into the digital realm, the Universal Peace Sanctuary aims to harness blockchain technology and creative storytelling to educate and encourage users to “make peace more fashionable than war,” as H. Em. Rinpoche envisions it.
Commenting on the latest initiative, Animoca Brands’ co-founder, Yat Siu, said:
“We are very excited to work with Smobler and His Eminence Rinpoche on the digital version of the Universal Peace Sanctuary, a project that promotes inclusive and harmonious spaces in both the real and virtual realms. The new virtual sanctuary in The Sandbox leverages Web3 to create an immersive experience and promote peace, tolerance, and understanding, and we believe that initiatives like this can drive meaningful engagement and contribute to positive change both in the real world and in the open metaverse.”
Animoca Brands and its metaverse-focused subsidiary have a knack for bringing IRL projects into the metaverse. Last month, for example, The Sandbox onboarded the Italian football club SSC Napoli into the virtual realm, bringing football fans closer to their favourite players.
The latest effort to create a metaverse experience for the Universal Peace Sanctuary shows Animoca Brands’ commitment to continuing to welcome real-world projects into the digital realm and its interest in promoting global peace.
