The leading NFT auction house Sotheby's is about to hold the largest-ever space-themed auction of all times. The never-before-seen collection, processed by Apollo 11 Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin himself, compiles artifacts from the astronaut's both the Gemini XII and Apollo 11 missions. Authentic equipment, tools, awards, memorable things, and plenty of other items related to Buzz Aldrin's unprecedented legacy will be put up for sale on July 26th at the Buzz Aldrin: American Icon auction.

The event will be held as part of the second-ever Geek Week by Sotheby's Science & Popular Culture department, which houses a series of top-tier auctions running from July 20th to July 28th.

But that's not all. Ten items from the Buzz Aldrin: American Icon collection will come with NFTs, providing the winning bidders with surefire proof of authenticity. Those tokens have been minted by MIRA as a MIRAImage, "a unique digital identifier linked to its physical object using novel microscopic 3D scanning technology and advanced mathematical techniques that extract the object's identifying “DNA.”

The innovative technology allows authenticating any physical objects by scanning them at the microscopic level to later embed them forever into the blockchain as NFTs. Thus, the hard-to-authenticate bids which will be paired with NFTs are as follows:

  • Buzz Aldrin's FLOWN In-flight Coverall Jacket, worn by him on his mission to the Moon and back during Apollo 11
  • FLOWN Apollo 11 Summary Flight Plan
  • The broken circuit breaker switch, flown to and used on the Lunar Surface
  • Lunar Surface Flown Apollo 11 LM Systems Activation Checklist
  • Lunar Surface Flown Apollo 11 LM Rendezvous Charts
  • Lunar Surface Flown Apollo 11 LM G and N Dictionary
  • Lunar Surface Flown Apollo 11 LM EVA Checklist Three Piece Cue Card Set
  • Lunar Surface Flown Apollo 11 Lunar Module Water Dispenser/Fire Extinguisher
  • Aldrin's Apollo 11 Molded Earpiece
  • Buzz Aldrin's New Frontier Congressional Gold Medal

The bids for these ten artifacts are scattered through a diverse price range, starting from $6,000 for an Apollo 11 Molded Earpiece up to $700,000 for both Aldrin's jacket and broken circuit breaker.

If you are a big space fan and want to collect an item that once participated in making history, these ten artifacts are waiting for your bids. Good luck!
