Welcome to the MA+KE lab Paralleelium Series.

The worlds have aligned to allow this rare chance to explore your own parallel universe. Your secret pathway to exploring brave new worlds.

About the project

Parallelium series Started in 2020, with an idea of parallel worlds. From its beginning, it has formed a reality of its own as intended. The Series started with a collection of artefacts. Patterns, concepts of spaces and study in the material.

Paralleelium is an amalgamation of Art and Design, a celebration of the changing nature around us. MA+KE Lab seeks to tell the story of lost and forgotten moments in heavenly shade and glorious technicolour. Drawings and patterns are imagined into the real world in the interdisciplinary format as wallpapers, textile, and sculptural furniture

Our desire is to tell stories about lost and forgotten things to engage people in new ideas and create a better understanding of the world around us.  We have been working together for over a year in the context of a world in crisis. This has drawn our minds to the alternative ways we could be living.

The feeling of responsibility, but also the need for escape is resonating from all over the world. Not knowing which way, the tables will turn for the future generations, we wonder and dream even deeper of all the realities, that could have manifested if decisions would have been made differently.

“Paralleelium illuminates an aspect of quantum theory that states observed subject changes depending on who is performing the observation a scale that encompasses all likely and unlikely outcomes,” explains Martin Tõnts, the lead of MA+KE lab. “One is in the position of the  observer as well as part of the subject, the world we see adapts to the subjectivity of our visual language,” he continues.

Behind the MA + KE lab´s design is Martin Tõnts, Master of Graphic Arts from EKA and his creation illuminating the art of patterns. Captivating room concepts have been created by product designer and photographer Kevin Pineda, whos been curating several exhibitions in Italy, France, and Germany. Mystical pattern world has been brought into our quantum reality by Nele Kont a graduate of TUT with a master's degree in materials technology. MA+Ke lab seeks to show patterns, their story in interdisciplinary format between concept design and classical graphic arts.

Throughout most of history, there’s been a symbiotic relationship between artists, fictional storytellers, and scientists. It sparks the imaginations for the alternative ways how our future might turn out to be, depending on each choice we make as individuals or collectively.

“Paralleelium” features MA+KE labs third collection. Eternal Garden patterns encapsulate all the unusual and wonderful plants, scarce or extinct in the wild. This sanctuary unfolds as a dreamy view from the ground to the sky. From ground-habiting flora to lush blooms growing into the sky. It is an opportunity to appreciate and marvel at miraculous plants that have grown and still dwell on our planet.

The exhibition series lets the viewer experience a different reality, where the world has changed, now a rush of people and machines, just the ever-flowing garden. These patterns create a continuation of the physical world into these other possibilities of life.

In first rendition, Paralleelium displayed three different mediums —monumental graphics, a graphic series and sculptural furniture.

Monumental graphics, four to six meters in measurements, create the illusion of real space, being in scale as the physical reality. The works offer a mind-opening idea as they allow the viewer to forget the physical gallery reality and enter a new world.

The reproducible graphic series expands the concept by introducing more man-made spaces, where nature has stated it prominence. Every palette and mood have its own sense of beauty and essence.

The pieces of sculptural furniture create a bridge between the physical gallery space and the artworks presented in it.

In observing these windows in time, we can marvel about different rich and opulent worlds, from which the Human species has dispersed, but nature has manifested in full grandeur and beauty.
