In collaboration with the Goshuin Japan team, this project aims to showcase the appeal of local temples like Ryuganji Temple on a global scale by transforming goshuin into NFTs. By embracing new technology, it addresses the declining interest in temples in modern Japanese society, reaching both global and local audiences. To honor the original value of the goshuin as proof of worship, the Ryuganji NFT artwork includes a video of the temple’s gate and main hall, along with animated brushstrokes of the goshuin calligraphy created by the head priest. Receiving a goshuin NFT fosters a digital connection while also encouraging people to visit Ryuganji Temple in person and experience its unique offerings.
I believe the most fascinating part of Japanese culture is found within temples. […] By sharing the charm of Japanese culture with the help of people from abroad, both Japan and the world will become more invigorated.

What is a Goshuin?
Ryuganji Temple Buddhist Head Priest, Ikeguchi Ryuho, is writing a goshuin calligraphy.
Goshuin is a handwritten stamp that proves your visit to a Buddhist temple, traditionally collected by worshippers during pilgrimages. In its long history in Japan, goshuin also symbolizes one’s devotion to the deities and temples. Goshuin typically features unique calligraphy, including the temple’s name, date, and phrase, all handwritten by the monk, making each one distinct - much like an NFT, as both act as proofs of ownership, each being one-of-a-kind.
