Flower Type began with a question: what if computer language could become the tissue of a living form?
Letters, numbers and punctuation become petals, stems, leaves and atmosphere. Each flower begins with a seed, its form unfolding over time. A finite alphabet gives rise to a garden of distinct specimens, each shaped by a shared set of generative rules.
The collection comprises 256 generative works by Ronen Tanchum, presented as part of his participation in the GLITCH Residency at Château du Feÿ, France. Releasing with OpenSea and Art Blocks on November 5, 2026 at 11 AM EST / 5 PM CET.
The generative script uses typography as its material. Characters build the direction, density and contours of each flower, while the same system shapes the surrounding sky and atmosphere. Seen from a distance, the marks gather into botanical forms; up close, the image resolves into an alphabet.
The work developed through studies of growth, character density, color relationships, negative space and weather. Rather than drawing each finished image by hand, I build the rules through which the flowers take shape, then spend time looking at what those rules produce.
Flower Type continues my exploration of how computational systems can express the complexity and change of the living world. The garden is both an image and a process.
