BUSY seeks to create maximally detailed worlds within its system. The work is meant to surround you, to pull you in, to let your eyes wander and pick out minute details hidden within its complex shapes. What if I could create highly detailed worlds with computation?
I was inspired by my experiences living in a remote, rural town in Vermont and being thrust into urban environments. The feeling of mayhem slowly turned into a love for all of the systems at play in city life. Transitioning between these worlds has been hard, especially in the last five years. I sought to create work that expressed these complex emotions as I experienced them.
My intention is to set the bar on what can be achieved with code and machine. I have developed sophisticated systems to translate illustrations into generative algorithms, and you will certainly see more of my work that uses these techniques. BUSY has fundamentally evolved my artistic practice, and I'm so pleased to finally share it with the world.
