Banksy's Wharf Rat was painted on a metal door in 2010 near the Alcatraz Boat Tour station on Pier 39 in San Francisco. Sadly, the piece was painted over by the city’s Public Works department shortly after it appeared.
A collector was able to recover the door and thanks to a team of restoration experts were able to restore the door and artwork itself back to its original state. The entire door and 1 of 1 NFT is now going up for auction this Friday, December 17, with additional NFT drops to follow.
20% of the proceeds of the auction and drop will go to two charities chosen by the collector who currently owns the piece: Center for the Pacific Asian Family and Miry’s List.
