The Arrested Punks project raises awareness for criminal justice reforms and helps get innocent people out of prison.
10,000 fictional punks that represent real-world people in prison for crimes they didn't commit were each programmatically given a mugshot, arrest details, criminal charges, and a prison sentence, which demonstrate the injustices that exist within our criminal justice system.
The project showcases the power NTFs have in contributing to social good. Arrested Punks will be the first NFT project to commit to the cause of criminal justice reform, donating 50% of funds raised at mint + 50% of royalties on the secondary market to The Innocence Project. Donations are triggered with each NFT sale, by extension making the NFT transactions themselves a built-in utility for the project.
The Innocence Project is a nonprofit organization that is committed to exonerating individuals who have been wrongly convicted. There are estimated to be over 2.4 million incarcerated individuals in the United States, and roughly 24,000 of them are innocent!
