Boasting of being as beautiful as the Nereids, Andromeda's mother, Cassiopeia, provoked the fury of Poseidon, who decided to flood the Earth and send the sea monster Ceto to destroy men and cattle. Cepheus, Andromeda's father, knew from the oracle of Amun what the only solution was: to marry his daughter to the monster. To do this, he left her only dressed in jewels and chained to a rock. Perseus, who after killing Medusa had received winged sandals as a gift from the Naiads, saw her chained and fell in love with her. After asking for the girl's hand in exchange for killing the monster, Perseus, with the head of Medusa - who turned whoever looked at her to stone - killed Keto and turned him into a coral. It is a theme represented in art by artists like Giorgio Vasari and Rembrandt.
