Originally conceived in 2021, Walled Garden is the result of a long development process shaped by technical experimentation and conceptual clarity.
The project was born from the desire to create an immersive digital space: a garden that behaves as a continuous ecosystem, not as a set of discrete visual objects.Built with Babylon.js and Houdini, the work renders a browser-based immersive simulation, procedurally animated through a shared global time with light, vegetation, and atmospheric elements.
Collectors interact with the system through 150 fixed viewpoints, each corresponding to an NFT. These perspectives are not designed for variation, but for structure. Each edition becomes a point of entry into the space.
A key component of the project is the visibility of others. Wallet names and ENS addresses appear across the garden, giving form to presence and allowing collectors to perceive each other’s position within the scene.The system is generative, but also architectural.Rather than composing images, it encodes orientation. What emerges is not a visual collection, but a spatial topology built on shared observation.
The conceptual foundation of Walled Garden also reflects a broader history of spatial enclosures in art. From the medieval hortus conclusus to Duchamp’s Étant donnés, the act of looking has often been structured through framing and restriction. Leegte extends this lineage into a digital logic, where perspective is no longer metaphor, but position within a coded system.
