AM is a deep exploration of the liminal nature of the night as a condition of the spirit where we are finally left alone with our true selves. It is a symbolic place that is disappearing from our planet, awash in artificial light. The title is a play on the word AM, which can be read both as “Anti Meridian” or as a verb, a statement of existence. The series explores a series of conflicts. The darkness vs the light The city vs the wilderness Consumption vs nature The social vs the individual The rational vs the subconscious The earthly vs the sacred These conflicts are visually represented by the juxtapositions of places, people, and objects that seem to meet in some kind of “twilight zone.” The tension between belonging to the civilized, consumeristic world and finding our deepest human nature is the key element connecting all images. The series is articulated as a collection of minutes, drawn from different places and lives but all happening within the same time frame: midnight to 5 AM (sunrise). Each piece is an individual minute.
