The Ila collection is about tribal markings in all the different tribes in Nigeria. Tribal marks are scarifications that are used for the identification of a person's tribe, family, and heritage. They are usually done by burning or cutting the skin during childhood. This collection will be telling the stories of Nigerian women who have tribal marks and their stories.
The first piece in the collection just dropped and is about Àṣàkẹ́, a black woman who is in search of her mother after relocating to a different continent at age five. She is currently using her tribal marks to find her way back home.
